A Ferrari conquistou neste domingo (16) a segunda vitória seguida em dois anos nas 24 Horas de Le Mans. O triunfo quase escapou, após perder a liderança na parte final da prova para a Toyota #7. O carro #50 sofreu com problemas na porta de Nicklas Nielsen, mas se recuperou na base da estratégia e, no limite do tanque de combustível, cruzou a linha de chegada em primeiro com o trio que teve também Antonio Fuoco e Miguel Molina.
O carro japonês cruzou em segundo com Kamui Kobayashi, José María López e Nyck de Vries, enquanto a Ferrari #51 fechou o pódio com os vencedores de 2023, James Calado, Antonio Giovinazzi e Alessandro Pier Guidi.
A equipe italiana imprimiu um ritmo muito forte desde o início, mas os japoneses se mantiveram na cola, principalmente com o carro #8. No entanto, uma batida de Pier Guidi em Brendon Hartley na volta 281 minou completamente as chances do trio e resultou em punição ao #51 de Maranello.
Nielsen abriu vantagem na ponta, mas lidou com uma porta aberta e foi obrigado a ir aos boxes. Com isso, López herdou a ponta e indicou que venceria, mas acabou superado pela escuderia de Maranello com menos de 50 minutos para o final.
Além dos três primeiros, o top-10 teve a seguinte ordem: Porsche Penske #6 (Kévin Estre, André Lotterer e Laurens Vanthoor), Toyota #8 (Sébastien Buemi , Brendon Hartley e Ryo Hirakawa), Porsche Penske #5 (Matt Campbell, Michael Christensen e Frédéric Makowiecki), Cadillac #2 (Earl Bamber, Alex Lynn e Álex Palou), Jota #12 (Callum Ilott, Norman Nato e Will Stevens), Jota #38 (Jenson Button, Phil Hanson e Oliver Rasmussen) e Lamborghini #63 (Mirko Bortolotti, Daniil Kvyat e Edouard Mortara).
Na classe LMP2, a United Autosports conquistou a vitória com o carro #22, de Oliver Jarvis, Bijoy Garg e Nolan Siegel, seguido pelo Inter Europol #34. A IDEC #28 completou o pódio, à frente da AF Corse #138, enquanto a Vector #10 fechou o grupo dos cinco primeiros. Na LMGT3, o triunfo ficou com a Manthey #91, que superou batalha até o fim com o WRT #31 de Augusto Farfus, Sean Gelael e Darren Leung e levou o primeiro lugar com Richard Lietz, Morris Schuring e Yasser Shahin.
Entre os brasileiros, Felipe Nasr e Pipo Derani sofreram acidentes e não conseguiram brigar pela vitória nos hipercarros. O Cadillac #311, que ainda tinha Felipe Drugovich, terminou na 29ª colocação, enquanto o Porsche Penske #4 abandonou. Por fim, Daniel Serra saiu do último lugar no grid de largada junto a Riccardo Pera e Michael Wainwright, chegou a ocupar o top-5, mas sofreu com problemas e terminou em 12º na LMGT3.
A próxima etapa da temporada 2024 marca o retorno da categoria ao Brasil, com as 6 Horas de São Paulo, em Interlagos.
